Don't Spend Your Life Climbing the Wrong Mountain

Welcome back to another edition of Monday Meaning, a weekly newsletter where we share one helpful lesson, quote, resource, and question to help you get just that much closer to achieving your dreams this week.

Our goal is to inspire as many people as we can to live out their dreams in life. So if you don’t feel inspired to go for your goals after reading this week’s email… well, we didn’t do a very good job, now did we?!

Here’s what we’re covering this week: Identifying your direction so you don't climb the wrong mountain in life.

Alright, let’s get to it!

Lesson of the Week

There’s a saying I recently heard that’s stuck with me ever since. And it goes like this:

Don’t make it to the top of the mountain only to discover you were climbing the wrong mountain the entire time.”

Hits deep, doesn’t it?

Okay, what exactly does it mean though and how does it apply to achieving your own goals in life?

Well, most of the time from a young age, we’re given an exact blueprint of where our lives should go.

Get good grades so you can go to a good school. Go to a good school so you can get a good job. Get a good job, work there for 40 years, then (and only then) can you retire and finally do all the things you ever wanted to do in life.

We spend so much of our lives climbing this so-called “mountain of success” which society has instilled on us from a young age.

But have you ever really paused to stop about if it’s the mountain you actually want to climb?

Or are you just climbing it because society told you to and you’re too scared to conquer your own mountains?

That’s why having a direction and a vision is so important for achieving your goals in life.

Not the direction your friends and family want you to climb in. Not the vision that was instilled upon you from a young age.

The direction and vision you want for yourself.

Because if you don’t identify your own direction in life, someone else will assign it to you.

And in 40 years when you’re old and grey, you’ll finally reach the top of the mountain… only to realize you were climbing the wrong mountain your entire life.

Climb your own mountain to success.

Identify what direction you want to go in, plan out your vision, then start climbing the mountain you want to conquer.

Quote of the Week

“There is perhaps nothing worse than reaching the top of the ladder and discovering that you’re on the wrong wall.”
