9 Ways to Skyrocket Your Confidence

Look, there’s something that 95% of people just don’t have.

The sad reality is that most people don’t believe in themselves. They lack confidence. I know because I used to be one of them.

For the longest time, I didn’t believe in myself. I didn’t believe in my abilities. I didn’t believe in my potential.

But now? I feel like I can accomplish anything (well, almost anything).

So what exactly changed?

I gained a newfound confidence in myself.

Here are 9 things you can do to go from being shy and afraid to feeling like you’re on top of the world.

1. Write More

Whether it’s journaling before bed, creating a blog post like this, or writing the next great American novel, writing is something that will skyrocket your confidence. I know it sounds strange, but bare with me.

Why does it work? Because writing is just a simple equation:

Better writing = Better thinking

The more you write, the better you’re able to connect the dots in your mind.

The better you’re able to connect the dots in your mind, the better you’re able to solve your own problems. You’re able to think differently.

Because writing is just an expression of thought.

It helps you get more clear on your goals and better communicate your ideas to the world.

And the better you’re able to communicate your ideas, the more confident you’ll become in the message you’re trying to share.

2. Learn a Skill

Thanks to the invention of the internet, it’s never been easier to learn a new skill. Free tutorials, courses, articles…

You quite literally have the Library of Alexandria at your fingertips at any given moment. So what would I recommend you do?

Pick a skill and stick with it. It can be anything:

  • Sales
  • Web design
  • Copywriting
  • Video editing
  • Graphic design
  • Email marketing

The options are endless.

Now, once you’ve picked a skill, practice consistently for a few months.

The key is to stick with it! Don’t let shiny-object-syndrome throw you off path (I know it has for me and many others).

Because if you stay consistent for only a few months, you’ll get really good… really fast.

Never stop learning and help teach others by sharing what you’re learning along the way.

Because nothing boosts your confidence more than changing someone’s life through the value you provide.

3. Start Creating

Now that you’ve learned a new skill, it’s time to put it to use!

Look, the reality is that most people use social media as a way to escape their lives. But that small percentage of others? They use social media as a way to create their lives.

All it takes is to start paying attention to the content you’re consuming on the platforms. What videos make you stop scrolling? What type of accounts are you most drawn to?

Learn to use your newly-acquired skill and start creating. It can be anything!

  • Blog
  • Book
  • Artwork
  • Business

Start off small and work your way up from there. Share your creations along the way. Slowly shift from a consumer to a creator.

Once you realize your creative potential and what you’re capable of, you’ll become much more confident in your abilities.

4. Face Your Fears

Facing your fears is one of those things that’s just… well, terrifying.

Yeah, it’s scary. You’ll be afraid at first. But it wouldn’t be called facing your fears if you weren’t, right?

Here’s what you have to remember though:

Everything you ever wanted in life is on the other side of fear.

Whether it’s asking for that promotion, skydiving, solo traveling, or standing on the edge of a cliff and shouting out to the world below.

All it takes is that first step and embracing the unknown.

Because once you take that first step? Once you have faith and trust that the best things in life lay just outside your comfort zone?

You’ll quickly realize you’re capable of a lot more than you give yourself credit for.

And it’s only a matter of time before you take another step. And another. And another, and another…

5. Get Out There and Exercise More

Whether it’s mental or physical, your health is the most important thing in your life.

Period.

Because if you don’t feel good, how are you going to perform at your best every day? How are you going to wake up feeling confident in yourself and eager to conquer your goals?

You won’t.

But when you start focusing on your health, you begin to look good (not that you didn’t look good before, but you know what I mean).

And when you look good physically, you feel good mentally.

When you feel good mentally, you look good physically.

Mental health is physical health and physical health is mental health.

That’s just how it works.

So start prioritizing your health.

Not only will you thank yourself later, but your confidence will skyrocket when you’re able to look in the mirror and be proud of the person staring back at you.

6. Dress to Impress

No, I don’t mean that you should dress to impress the person next to you or the complete stranger that you’ll never see again.

I mean that you should dress to impress the most important person in your life… you!

I know it may sound strange, but we all just have that one outfit that makes us look gooooood.

When you look in the mirror and think to yourself, “Dang, you’re looking fine today” (not just me, right?).

And remember:

When you look good, you feel good.

So go on and find that fit that makes you feel good. And start walking around like you own the place.

But don’t do it for anyone else. Do it for yourself.

Seriously, you’ll be amazed at what it can do for your self-confidence.

7. Have Gratitude

If you’ve been signed up for my newsletter for a while, you know that one of my all-time favorite quotes is from the movie Kung Fu Panda. It goes like this:

"Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. But today is a gift, that’s why it’s called the present."

Hits deep, doesn’t it?

It’s a gentle reminder to never take a single day for granted. Because each morning you wake up truly is a gift!

At one point in time, you wished for exactly where you are today.

There are so many others who would die to be in your position. A stomach full of food, a roof over your head, a warm bed to sleep in. If you have those things, you’re already richer than a large population of the world.

Stop thinking about what you don’t have and start thinking about what you do have. Make the shift from a mindset of scarcity to a mindset of abundance.

Because sometimes a change in perspective can make all the difference.

8. Set Goals

You could have the biggest dream in the world. But if you have no idea how you’re going to get there, it will remain just that… a dream.

Now, if you want to turn your dreams into a reality, you must set goals for yourself.

Goals are how we actively improve our lives. They give us something to work on and provide meaning to our days.

But how do you set goals for yourself? It’s actually pretty simple.

Take the thing you want to do most. Write out where you are and where you want to be. Then write down every single thing you have to do that will help you get to where you want to be.

If you want to lose weight, what are the smallest goals you’ll set for yourself to lose weight?

If you want to gain financial freedom, what are the smallest goals you’ll set for yourself to gain financial freedom?

Setting and accomplishing goals will give you the confidence and momentum you need to keep going and working toward the next one.

So try it out for yourself: Write down where you are (Point A). Write down where you want to be (Point B). And write down every small step you need to take to get from Point A to Point B.

9. Prioritize Yourself

I saved this one for last because… well, it’s arguably the most important thing you can do in life.

As harsh as it may sound, you can never prioritize the feelings or opinions of others more than your own.

Start putting your own happiness first, and don’t let the opinions of others dictate how you live your life.

  • Be who you want
  • Do what you want
  • Live how you want

Your sleep, health, and happiness are the three most important things you should prioritize in life.

Because only after you help yourself can you begin to help others.

You won’t live your best if you’re not feeling your best. You won’t feel your best if you’re not living your best.

Learn to put yourself first and you’ll be more confident in your ability to make a difference in the world around you.

So there you have it, 9 things that have helped me go from shy and timid to feeling on top of the world.

And the best part is?

There’s always room for improvement. You can always become stronger, set bigger goals for yourself, face more fears… feel more confident!

But if you’re lacking confidence in your life, try out just a few of these things and see what it can do for you. You just might surprise yourself.
